For the past 2 years 509 Arts has worked with National Trust staff and volunteers to uncover the fascinating stories of Gibson Mill and NT Hardcastle Crags in the twentieth century. In the stairwell of Gibson Mill you will see a 5.9 metre banner created by Sandra McCracken, that illustrates some of the events that have taken place over the past 120 years. It is testament to the many thousands of people who have nurtured, cherished, enjoyed, protected and fought for the survival of this extraordinary valley. As you walk around this site imagine the many different stories that it tells - from political demonstrations and massed choirs to adventure holidays, reunions and boating lakes. In the near future we will have completed a series of education packs with Mel Daniels on the many stories of the Crags that can be used by schools, community groups, families and individuals to find out more about the rich history of this place.Generations have come here to walk, talk, sing, dance, camp, explore and discover a landscape that is like no other in West Yorkshire. ...
