Our intention is to make On Reflection as weightless as possible, as insubstantial as memory itself, whilst retaining impact and presence. The set, designed by Hannah Sibai, consists of little more than fabric threaded from floor to ceiling, paper ticker tape, tables, chairs and typewriters. Its ephemeral nature brings a very special quality to the installation as it shifts and moves in response to every small movement of the air. An ambient soundtrack, created by Daniel McGlade, quietly fills the space. The environmental impact of On Reflection is designed to be minimal.
On Reflection is an ongoing project and can be made available for installation in gallery spaces permanent and temporary anywhere in the world. Contact alan.dix@509arts.co.uk.
On Reflection
On Reflection explores the relationship between things remembered, the passage of time and events that have shaped the world we live in. It is an interactive installation that grows and evolves, with visitors adding their unique contributions during each iteration to create a shared space that blends remembered moments with events and stories that have shaped individuals, communities, societies and history.
On Reflection premiered at Bradford University in Autumn 2021 and opened at Lancaster Arts in Spring 2022.
