Mills influenced the growth of towns and cities, shaped the landscape, and led to significant social and cultural changes. We're discovering some amazing stories on our travels through Bradford's Lost Mills.
Fancy joining the story? There's still plenty of time to get involved.
Here's a little reminder that we will be at Manningham Mills Community Centre Monday 31st July, thats' tomorrow!!
Come along on our heritage journey through the lost mills and ghost mansions of Bradford in the last 50 years.
It's fascinating and truly wonderful, here's a snippet from one of our sessions
"I started work at Priestman’s in 1957 straight from school, as an apprentice in drawing, spinning, twisting and winding. An overlooker died at Christmas 1961 and I was given his job, although I was still an apprentice."
There used to be over 350 working mills in Bradford. In the last 50 years most of them have closed and today there are less than 20. The rest have been demolished or repurposed. Many have tragically burnt down. Bradford’s great textile buildings and the people who worked in them are slowly disappearing.
Lost Mills and Ghost Mansions is rediscovering the stories of Bradford’s recent textile past in words, pictures, audio and video.
